April's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
This month's athlete is Miss Allison Kusch. She has shown nothing but dedication since joining H Dub. Not only is she loyal to her 6:30pm class, but she always gives the workout her all because she strives to be the best she can. We are so grateful for her positive vibes and high fives! One of our favorite moments with Allison was during this years Open when she got her first pull-up and then went on to get 7 more! Her hard work is definitely paying off. Keep it up girl!

Name: Allison Kusch Hometown: Murfreesboro, TN Age: 28 Occupation: Manager, Partnership Relations, CoreCivic Tell us a little bit about yourself: I am the youngest of three, and the only girl! I loved growing up with older brothers, they definitely shaped me into the person I am today! Although I was usually getting in trouble for talking in school, I was more of a teacher's pet than a class clown. I played sports throughout middle school and high school. I graduated from Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro and went to college at the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner). I have a dual degree in Criminology and Sociology. My family is very important to me, so Sundays are for game day! What were your goals when you started CrossFit? My goal when I started CrossFit was pretty simple – don't die! Jk, Jk, jk! I just wanted to get better every day, and be a better, stronger person both physically and mentally. Now that I have been doing CrossFit for a while, I am making new goals for myself and I love being able to check off some of those goals as achieved! How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it? I started CrossFit because college was over which meant no more organized intramurals and no more access to the student rec center. I didn't want to get lazy. I knew I needed direction and something more engaging than just running on a treadmill or doing free weights. My stepmom knows how competitive I am and suggested I call her best friend and talk with her about the gym she owns (CrossFit Rutherford). I called and was in the on-ramp class two days later. In total, I have been doing CrossFit for almost three years. I was at CFR for a year before I moved out of state for work (and got lazy). When I moved back to Nashville I got back into a CrossFit routine. I just celebrated my two (consecutive) year CrossFit anniversary on Friday. What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit? My least favorite thing, hands down, is rowing! It will be the death of me!! But I don't know if I have an all-time favorite thing. As sucky as they are, I like Hero WODs. There is something special about paying tribute to people who have sacrificed their lives for our country/freedom. How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you? I cannot say enough good things about CrossFit H Dub!! The community at H Dub is beyond measure! Finding a new box is hard. I tried out four new gyms after my previous gym closed last fall and there was always something missing. From day one at H Dub I knew I'd found my new gym home! The athletes are awesome and the coaches are fantastic! There really is a sense of family in the gym. You can walk in on any given day and see smiles, hear encouragement, and receive a high five! Each day we push each other to be a better version of ourselves and you can't help but be positively affected by that! Good vibes, Hard Work! What advice do you have for newcomers? I won't say it gets easier, because it doesn't! And if it does you're not working hard enough! But it does get better – you get better! Find a time that works for you every day and make it part of your routine, make it a habit. Walking in the door is the hardest part! What is something no one at the gym knows about you? I can quote every line of The Sandlot.
Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive? John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Jimmy Fallon If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be? MC Hammer – Can't Touch This
Favorite Sport? Favorite sport to play is volleyball; favorite sport to watch is (college) football. If you could have one super power what would it be? I am late everywhere I go! I would love to be able to snap my fingers and just be at the next place I'm going. What is your favorite cheat meal? Mac & cheese!!!
