May's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.

This month's athlete is Mr. Jason Addams. We cannot say enough about this guy. He is always making us laugh, pushing himself to be the best he can be, cheering on others, and putting in the work OUTSIDE the gym. We are grateful for his persistence and dedication. He is the perfect example of an H DUB Athlete!

Name: Jas Hometown: Chicago Age: 45
Occupation: DJ on the radio
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I have lived in Nashville for 3 1/2 years. My girlfriend is amazing! I have a sweet dog named Zoey. I've spent most of my life as a DJ on the radio. I have 3 daughters. I've lived and worked in seven states. Making someone laugh is more rewarding than just about anything that's ever happened in my life. I'm constantly socially awkward which is part of the reason for the jokes all the time. I have had many setbacks in my life. I've made lots of mistakes, some of them over and over again. Generally speaking, my fear, self loathing, mistakes, setbacks, worries, insecurities, toxicity, mistrust, negativity, and brokeness don't exisit in 2 places: in the heart of my love and at Crossfit H Dub.
What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
At first, learn about exercise. I wanted to reenergize my life. Learn about longevity and of course get in way better shape. I like the thought of life as RX. I'm not an athlete. I don't have great ambitions to be the best at muscle ups or burpees. I know that I have lived my life outside of what was intended for my body. I'd like to someday have the body God intended for me to have. When I get there, maybe we can talk about muscle ups.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?
My first coach came to my work, gave me a good talking to and insisted I start the next day. That was December of 2012. Unfortunately I had two serious injuries and a couple nagging injuries since moving to Tennessee so my Crossfit career has been on and off. I had some big life changes going on and those came at the same time I met an incredible guy named Blake Stadel. He was the guy at work who trained all the time and ate "Paleo," whatever that is. He slowly began to explain crossfit and talked to a coach about working with me. That coach saved my life. What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?
My favorite part of Crossfit is resting. My least favorite part is the exercising. Actually I don't mind Kettlebells and cleans. Anything gymnastic is not my friend...... yet.
How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you? Dropping lbs and getting my crossfit confidence back where its been in the past. Joining H Dub has drastically improved my health, taking my diabetes to nearly non-existant. My first gym rescued me from danger and H Dub has put the finishing move on Diabetes for me.
What advice do you have for newcomers? Don't be scared. Crossfit is an individual workout. No one expects you to lift 300 lbs on your first day. Everyone training with you is working on individual goals in a group setting. Crossfit is entirely self propelled. The coaches will find a weight, an exercise, a movement that works for your experience and fitness level. Don't be scared. The community will support and inspire you!
What is something no one at the gym knows about you? I blab so much I can't imagine anything you don't know. Because people know how much I love guacamole, you'd be surprised at how often people text me pictures of the guac they are eating!
Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive? Jesus. I have many many questions. My three daughters
For fun... Walter Payton, David Letterman, a grizzly bear.
If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be.
This may be obvious, but one of the hits on the radio when I started Crossfit was Macklemore - Can't Hold Us. It's my jam! I like U2 so maybe Beautiful Day just to keep the good vibes going!
Favorite Sport? Trying to make people laugh and probably football.
If you could have one super power what would it be? Heal people with a single touch
What is your favorite cheat meal? All sweets, a larger steak, Chicago Pizza and as much guacamole as possible.
