August’s Athlete Of The Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better!

Big Congrats goes to Jess Bayer! This lady is always happy to be here even if she isn’t happy with what the workout is that day. She has a gift of genuinely want to get to know you and learn more about your life. If a stranger walks in the building, Jess is the first one running up to welcome them. Though she doesn’t believe it she IS an athlete and we couldn’t be more proud to have her hear at H Dub. Learn more about Jess in her questionnaire below:

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

  • I love people, dogs, and plants (in that order)
  • I’m an amateur sommelier
  • My dog is a retired model
  • I’ve been described as naively optimistic and an “awkward, foul-mouthed, sarcastic delight”

What were your goals when you started training?

  • To do a pull-up (since lost, but returning soon!)
  • To feel like a chalk-covered badass
  • Help control my anxiety and release the frustration & tension that is corporate life

How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it?

  • About a year! I moved to Tennessee for work and started looking for community, good programming, tunes, and a cute dog. Found all that and more at H Dub!

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training?

  • I love lifting and hate getting out of breath. Find me on the floor about 5 minutes into any cardio (cut that in half in the summer cause she’s a cold weather gal)

How has H Dub positively affected you?

  • I’ve found amazing friends and a fun, supportive environment here. There is never any judgment and always the best vibes. It’s the best part of my day! I get a push when I need it and a pat on the back for showing up on tough days. Is someone chopping onions?…

What advice do you have for newcomers?

  • Just do it. No one is watching, but everyone is rooting for you. Oh, and *pacing*

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

  • I’m a city girl to the core, but love backpacking. My very first hike was 120 miles on the Appalachian Trail. Since then I’ve climbed the Great Western Divide, hiked the JMT, and swam in Precipice Lake at 10k+ elevation

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be?

  • Buzzin – Mann
  • Close second: Little Booties Matter – Trap Beckham

Favorite Sport?

  • Blues hockey – nothing else matters

If you could have one super power what would it be?

  • Flying

What is your favorite thing to eat?

  • Fussy, overpriced, hard-to-pronounce food garnished with flowers
