October's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
This month is Mrs. Allie Greenplate! Allie shows up and shows out at the 5:30am class. She is consistent and is constantly working towards goals and it doesn't go unnoticed. She recently competed in her first CrossFit competition and surprised herself, but not us. Not only does she work hard, but she also brings her kindness and positive attitude with her, which isn't always easy at 5:30 in the morning. She helps make the CrossFit H Dub community what it is - a Good Vibe Tribe,

Name: Allie Greenplate Hometown: Glenmoore, PA Age: 28 Occupation: Graduate student Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I grew up and went to college just outside of Philadelphia. I spent a couple more years in Philly working for a pharmaceutical company before moving to Nashville 5 years ago to get a PhD in cancer immunology at Vanderbilt. I spend most of my days in lab, chopping up tumors, analyzing data, and writing papers. Outside of lab, I spend a lot of time watching "The Office" with my husband, practicing photography, and watching SnapChat videos of my niece.
What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
I had focused on playing ultimate frisbee and distance running since freshman year of college. I was super bored and found myself working out less and less. My goal when I started CrossFit was to love working out again and to do so consistently.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?
I started CrossFit about 9 months ago (January 2017). I got into it because my little sister demanded that I drive her to the Nashville Fit Magazine launch party that happened to be at CrossFit Hdub. I entered my name into a drawing for free OnRamp and won. The rest is history.
What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?
Besides hanging out with awesome people? I love all of the gymnastics movements and any workout that involves sprinting. My least favorite thing is double-unders (but I suspect that's because I'm terrible at them).
How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?
CrossFit H Dub is an amazing group of people, collectively striving towards shared goals and encouraging each other along the way. Communities like that are few and far between. Grad school is really competitive/intense/isolating and continually pushing forward can be difficult. H Dub has given me confidence in my ability to push past perceived limitations, in the gym and at work. It's provided a safe place to fail and try again (and again). Is there a word limit on these answers? Because I could keep going...
What advice do you have for newcomers?
Be consistent. The beginning is hard. I think I spent the first month of CrossFit asking my husband to help me put my jacket on because my arms were so sore. People give up just as they're about the achieve success.
What is something no one at the gym knows about you?
I was a drummer for 10 years. But, not a cool drummer. I was the kind of drummer who played a mean xylophone, triangle, crash cymbal, etc.
Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?
C.S. Lewis, Serena Williams, Sheryl Sandberg
If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be.
She's out of her mind -Blink182
Favorite Sport?
To play: ultimate frisbee. To watch: baseball.
If you could have one super power what would it be?
The ability to pause time. The good moments go by way too fast.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
French fries. Unlimited, bottomless french fries.
