March's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
This month is awarded to Kevin Garrabrant. Kevin joined CrossFit H Dub in November and has been a shining example of dedication and consistency. Not only does he consistently make it 5-6 times a week, but always comes with good vibes attitude and the motivation to put in the work. He listens to his coaches on the importance of form and mobility too, always spending extra time on that. His hard work definitely shows too. His squat looks 10x better than when we first came to H Dub. And, Kevin is doing the Open this year and just PR'd his clean at 235# during 18.2. We are so proud and happy to have him as part of the family!

Name: Kevin Garrabrant Hometown: Johnson City, TN Age: 24 Occupation: Client Services Coordinator for a Healthcare Tech company Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I was raised in Johnson City, TN but moved to Nashville in May after graduating with a degree in Healthcare Administration. In my spare time I love watching any kind of sport (Go Vols), watching Netflix, or volunteering with an organization called Younglife.
What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
I honestly didn't have any specific goals when I started Crossfit. I just wanted to be able to finish a workout. Eventually my goals have evolved into being able to do a double under, handstand push-ups, and a muscle-up.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it? I've been doing Crossfit since November. I started at H Dub with the 6 week hustle hard challenge. I got into Crossfit because I really wanted something different. About 5 years ago I lost almost 100lbs by just running, then I gradually transitioned into a "bro split" lifting routine where I did the same general lifts all the time. Eventually I got bored and burned out and stopped going to the gym completely. Once I moved here I wanted to find a place that wasn't crazy crowded all the time and incorporated both cardio and weight training. I had briefly tried Crossfit in the past but didn't like it. Finally I decided to try it again and I had heard that H Dub was the best place to go and the rest is history!
What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit? My favorite thing is probably deadlifts. I love the simplicity of just picking something heavy up off the ground. My least favorite thing is probably any type of handstand. I come crashing down way more than I'd like to admit.
How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you? The community here is awesome. It can be intimidating going to a new place (especially to exercise) and try new things. But from the moment I walked into H Dub I felt accepted. When you move to a new city it was a great feeling to be accepted so quickly even though I had no Crossfit experience really at all. The coolest thing to see is whenever someone finishes a workout one of the first things they do is encourage those who are still going.
What advice do you have for newcomers? Consistency is your best friend. The only way you can get better at something is to keep doing it. The best workouts i've had are on days that I almost didn't come. You'll be amazed how much you improve if you just keep showing up!
What is something no one at the gym knows about you? I am a second degree black belt in karate and can use nunchucks pretty well.
Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive? Nick Offerman - One of my ultimate goals is to share a 44 oz steak and a glass of whiskey with him.
The Rock - I grew up a HUGE wrestling fan
Chris Farley - I feel like we would have a good time together.
If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be? Highway to Hell
Favorite Sport? Football
If you could have one super power what would it be? Super Speed - I've always been sorta slow so it would be a change of pace.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
Cookies - They are my weakness
