October's Athlete of the Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.

Congrats to Alejandro Rodriguez! He also won "Hardest Worker" at our 3 year anniversary party. He works so hard inside and outside of the gym. The most important thing to him is his family and making sure they are taken care of. We are so glad he realized you have to take care of YOURSELF to be able to be the best for your family. Since we met Alejandro 2 years ago we have seen such a positive change in him. We love having him and his wife, Fatima as part of our family. Keep working hard and staying true to yourself, Alejandro!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Father of 3 kids. Married with "La mas mamacita" (beautiful hot lady). Lucky one to be alive. I like to do creative things that people tell me I can't do. I like to challenge myself. I believe in divine things and in a higher power and spiritual connections. What were your goals when you started CrossFit?

I had never exercised in my life and I was always working to support my family, so one of my goals was to get out of my routine and do something different.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?

I have been doing CrossFit for 2 years now. I saw a video of a 75 year old man doing CrossFit and it interested me. I was once working a construction job where there was a CrossFit gym (H Dub) close by. Randomly, a few weeks later, I signed up for a 6 week challenge on Facebook without even knowing it was at the same gym.

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?

Favorite: jump rope and box jumps / Least favorite: Thrusters

How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?

I have learned that exercise can be fun, especially when you do it with a lot of people. Despite not speaking English very well, the coaches and other members help me and it makes me feel good!

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Don't look at the workout, just show up! Never eat right before coming to the gym.. you may throw up.

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I grew up watching Mexican soap operas. I always fall asleep in the movie theater. I am 10 years sober!

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

Both of my grandmothers that have passed away and all of my family together with my four brothers.

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be.

Heaven - Los Lonely Boys or Amazing - Aerosmith
