December's Athlete of the Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.

This month we are happy to recognize Jason Grafton. We have seen amazing strides from him since he joined H Dub in June and that is due to how consistent he has been. He is a 5:30am regular and doesn't miss a day. Not only that, but he always gives his best effort. We admire his decision to better himself for his beautiful family. Our favorite memory thus far with Jason has been Friday Night Lights during the Open. Although he would do the workout with the 5:30am class, he would come back for FNL with his daughter just to cheer everyone on in the workout. They were the best duo and she is so lucky to have a strong role model as a Dad!

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I've lived in Nashville for just over eight years. My wife and I have two kids, Nadia who is six, and Arek who is five months. We live on a small farm just north of downtown. I've lived in seven different states, from coast to coast. Nashville has been the best place so far.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?

To build strength, and lose fat. I didn't know much about CrossFit, surviving the workouts was at the top of the list also.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?

I started in June of this year. I was at a regular gym and they were doubling the rates. I started looking into something closer to home and different. I had been going to the other place for several years so it was comfortable. My brother in law told me I would like CrossFit, he was right. Honestly, I found H-dub searching gyms on google maps. I visited and loved the atmosphere and workouts. Walking in and being greeted by a dog clinched it.

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?

Favorite- Kettlebell swings or farmers carry.

Least favorite- Running. I hate to run

How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?

I love the atmosphere and positive encouragement. Even at 0530 everyone is in a great mood and pushing each other to be their best. It has helped me feel comfortable doing things I have never tried.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Don't be intimidated by the non-traditional workouts (handstand pushups, rope climbs, etc.)

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I took a two-day course learning how to motorcycle road race in Reno. It was an amazing experience!

I completed my MBA in September

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

My Grandpa- I spent every summer with him growing up. I would love to get more advice from him.

Tom Hanks- The best actor out there. Just seems down to earth and a fun person to talk to.

My wife- with two kids this NEVER happens with just her and I!

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be.

Green Day- Basketcase

Favorite Sport?

Hunting

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Hulk strength. I would love to be able to smash a building, or rip a tree out by its roots.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Steak and crab legs, with no-bake cookies for desert.
