January's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
Congrats are in order for Lindsey Major! This girl is a warrior. She recently underwent shoulder surgery and hasn't skipped a beat since. Even though the recovery has been pretty extensive, she put her physical therapy first and trusted her coaches to modify workouts so she could stay consistent in the gym. Keep it up, Linds!

Name: Lindsey Major Hometown: Lockport, IL Age: 31 Occupation: Head of Customer Strategy for a tech company Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I played three sports throughout my childhood and high school: softball, basketball and volleyball. I ended up playing softball at the University of Iowa until I obtained a career-ending head injury. I moved to Nashville about 6 years ago to complete my MBA, pursue a career in music, and get away from Midwest winters. After working in music for short stint, I decided it was not for me and made a career change. Over the last few years I've been working for tech start-ups and focusing on process and experience design, product testing and consumer research. I play piano, guitar and saxophone and still occasionally write a song. I'm vegan and I'm a proud dog mom to Nala and Maddox. My husband (Steve Nagel) and I got married a little over a year ago -- you will occasionally find him at the gym, too. :) What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
Lose weight, get stronger, keep some athleticism, and support my partner, Steve, with his goals.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?
I first got into CrossFit about 9 or 10 years ago following my head injury. I had a long recovery process and after finally being cleared to workout again, I really wanted to find something similar to the workouts I went through while playing softball. An old teammate of mine told me about CrossFit and I joined her gym. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience there. I did, however, enjoy the workouts so after moving to Nashville, I joined a regular gym and did CrossFit and HIIT workouts on my own. The year or so leading up to our wedding, I did mostly cardio-based training, but after the wedding I wanted to get back to myself. My husband was also motivated to find a workout routine that he would stick with and that was more functional than the standard weightlifting he was used to. Andy Tomlinson talked us into checking out H Dub and we've been members since April. What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit? Favorite: Cleans -- all flavors.
Least favorite: Thrusters How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?
I was pretty hesitant to join another CrossFit gym after my last experience, but H Dub has completely changed my perspective. It's been a very supportive community and probably the most welcoming gym I've ever been a part of. I've never felt out-of-place or self-conscious. What advice do you have for newcomers? Go your own pace. Everyone is at a different point in their journey and strengths vary from athlete to athlete. Also, don't count yourself out before you try. If you can't do a movement yet, that doesn't mean you won't ever be able to. It just means you have some work to do.
What is something no one at the gym knows about you?
I went shark diving at Seal Island in South Africa. Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive? John Lennon, Melinda Gates, Marcus Lemonis If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be. "Crazy Train" - Ozzy Osborne -- Best walk out song ever. Favorite Sport? Baseball If you could have one super power what would it be? I know this isn't really one super power, but I would want to be like Dr. Strange from the Marvel Universe. What is your favorite cheat meal?
Pizza
