March's Athlete of the Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.

We couldn't be more happy to congratulate Randy Brown this month. He is one of our biggest advocates and we are so thankful for him. We have loved watching his evolution in the gym. From day one to now, he has always been one to put in 100% effort. He is also the epitome of Good Vibes, from saying hello to everyone in the building to killing the dress up game during the open. Keep being awesome, Randy!

Name: Randy Brown Hometown: Forest, MS Age: 44 Occupation: Customer Success Manager Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I moved to Nashville in 1993 to go to Belmont University. Spent over 18 years in the music business before pivoting into tech at Eventbrite. Recently started a new side hustle of managing a new independent artist who is releasing music this spring. I live in WEHO with my partner, Jonathan, and dog, Baker. Motto: Never be late for a funeral or a happy hour.

What were your goals when you started CrossFit?

I wanted to be coached properly, get stronger, and overcome my fear of the barbell.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it? March 2020 is exactly 2 years since joining H Dub and doing CrossFit for the first time. Our pal, Brian Rutledge, invited me to workout with him as part of our Eventbrite Fitness Challenge. What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?

I really like Toes 2 Bar and wall-facing handstands. I loathe throwing that damn sandbag over my shoulder!

How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?

I've marveled at what the body can do. I'm performing movements I never imagined I'd be able to do, and it's only the tip of the iceberg. It's given me confidence and a greater appreciation for being fit and mobile. And the community of members and its positivity is unmatched.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Just show up. Every day you leave this gym after giving 100%, you just got better.

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I once sang a live version of "Proud Mary" at a tour after-party with Faith Hill and Kenny Chesney as my backup singers/dancers.
