July's Athlete of the Month
Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make CFHD the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better.
Congrats are in order for Elyse Burke! We are so lucky she walked through our doors. She just celebrated her 1-year H Dub anniversary and we have loved seeing her evolve over the year. The past few months have been tough on everyone, but Elyse did not let hard times be an excuse to put her health to the wayside. She actually ramped up her health and fitness journey and it has not gone unnoticed. If you've been in class with her you know her energy is contagious. We are most thankful for her kind heart and amazing vibes she brings to the Dub!

Name: Elyse Burke Hometown: Clifton Park, NY Age: 28 Occupation: looking for a new gig Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I was raised in upstate NY and have been in Nashville for 10 years. I’m a lover of yoga, fitness, coffee, oatmeal and smoothies. Also La Croix, any flavor. Massive fan of The Office, Erin, Kelly and Phyllis are my favorite characters. I also play violin.
What were your goals when you started CrossFit?
The main goal is to take care of myself. I’ve learned that you can’t take care of other people without taking care of yourself first. When we respect ourselves in this way, I think it inspires other people to do the same. How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get into it?
Just over a year! Functional fitness had been on my radar for a couple of years prior, but I was always too intimidated to try it. One morning I was like “you know what, I can do this and there’s no use in waiting any more” and I scheduled my No Sweat Intro with H Dub. What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in CrossFit?
Favorite – I always get pumped when I see runs in workouts
Least favorite – push ups
How has CrossFit H Dub positively affected you?
I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been, and I just love this community. What advice do you have for newcomers?
1. Keep showing up. You are worth it, and this community is better with you in it.
2. Let go of the need to be perfect. Mistakes and setbacks are how we learn. Be kind to yourself and adopt a growth mindset :)
What is something no one at the gym knows about you?
I am not great at dancing, but you better believe I make up for it through my commitment to the moves.
