December's Athlete Of The Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better!

It's only fitting that this month's Athlete Of The Month was also this year's Chili Cook Off Champion. Caitlin has made great strides in the past year and her hard work is showing off. Her attitude of gratitude always shows when you are in her presence. She is one of those athletes who doesn't know her own strength but this girl is strong! One of our favorite things about her is how welcoming she is. If there is a new face in the house she will be sure to introduce herself and welcome them to H Dub.

Name: Caitlin Summers

Hometown: Boca Raton, FL

Age: 33

Occupation: Corporate Advertising, Servpro Industries

What were your goals when you started training?

My goals when I started are so much different than what they are now- who I was, what I wanted from working out and how I viewed it has all changed since joining HDub. Initially I wanted to “look” better, skinnier, etc. What I did not expect was that for the first time in my life, I would actually enjoy and look forward to working out. My weight, diet and commitment to fitness has always fluctuated as an adult. I’ve gone from one extreme to the next. But this is the first time in my life that I’m sticking to something for no other reason than I truly love and enjoy it. I know as long as thats my reason for showing up, the results will come.

I also realized somewhere along the way that beyond the physical benefit, I was showing up to deal with the mental and emotional battles of life. I now look forward to sweating it out in a space and with a community of people who are here for the same reasons, lifting each other up along the way.

How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it?

This Feb (2023) will be 2 years! Wow, time

flies

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training?

Pull-ups and muscle ups are my least fave because they are the only movements I still can’t do. My goal is to be able to conquer every movement we practice at H Dub.

I love a back squat/glute day, but my all-time favorite movement(s) are handstand push-ups, rope climbs and double unders! Count me in for a gymnastics day.

How has H Dub positively affected you?

H Dub has been one of the few constants in my life the last couple years. I have been through a lot and moving to a new city mid-pandemic I knew I needed community and to surround myself with people who were committed to health and wellness. I knew these would be the type of people I’d want to become friends with both in and outside the gym, and I have truly established some incredible friendships that I am so thankful for. Always willing to share my story with anyone who wants to grab coffee or a happy hour! Connection and friendship is so important.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

I was inconsistent for almost a year just trying figure out my life, so it took me a second to find my groove, but my best advice is to keep showing up! Whether your goal is to peep an ab muscle for the first time or to make a best friend, both will happen in time. If nothing else, just know that you will leave feeling better than you did when you showed up, every single time without fail. Start there and watch as everything else falls into place.

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

My primary work is to negotiate and sign brand partnerships in sports, both at the collegiate and professional level. I feel douchey saying that in conversation, so I usually avoid talking about work at the gym.

I’m obsessed with my dog.

Great writer, terrible public speaker.

Aside from the Dub, I'm very passionate about music, cooking, friendship & animals

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

J.Lo- what a career amirite? John Krasinski- guaranteed laughs and hotness, and then Britney Spears because there’s a lot to unpack there- would make for a great brunch date.

If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be.

I love this question because I always get lit in my car on the way to the gym, and my music taste does not discriminate, but definitely Humble by Kendrick Lamar

Favorite Sport?

Football. Obsessed . Go Jags go Noles!

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Mind reading 10/10

What is your favorite thing to eat?

Another tough one to narrow down, but Asian food does not miss, and then probably Mexican with a strong emphasis on margaritas and queso
