October's Athlete Of The Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better! This month we want to congratulate Steven Nagel! We aren't sure which is bigger, Steve's smile or his strength numbers. He is a lover of sports, video games and busting a move to some good tunes. Steve is super coachable and always strives to do his best. Check out his answers to our questionnaire below:

Name: Steven Nagel

Hometown: Homer Glen, IL

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago and moved to Nashville about 8 years ago. I was an athlete to the ripe old age of 19 but have continued my fitness journey throughout the years. My fitness passion has always been focused around powerlifting but specifically the mental battle of pushing yourself to the next level in your numbers. Professionally, my career has been focused in HR but I recently returned to school and graduated a couple of weeks ago and am in the process of transitioning into a tech/software development role.

What were your goals when you started training?

Previously, I was mostly focused on weight lifting bit little else. I was hoping to improve my cardiovascular health while mixing it up a bit with my workouts.

How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it?

About 3 years. I started H Dub because of good word of mouth from current members in my network.

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training?

Least favorite: burpees

Favorite: The changing workout plans throughout the year. It keeps the workouts interesting and it is nice to focus and develop in specific areas before moving to the next training plan.

How has H Dub positively affected you?

Mental health is huge to me and H Dub continues to be a main contributor to my overall mental well being.

What advice do you have for newcomers?

Only focus on your personal numbers… the rest will take care of itself.

What is something no one at the gym knows about you?

I was an award-winning artist in high school.

Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive?

Roger Maris - to discuss his 61 season and the current state of baseball

Ryan Reynolds - should be a funny dinner

Scarlet Johansson - celebrity crush
