September's Athlete Of The Month

Time to highlight one of our spectacular athletes! What makes up an Athlete of the Month? Not RX’ing every workout or lifting the most weight. This athlete exhibits consistency and a hard work mentality. Every time they come to the gym they have a good attitude and give their all. This person is also welcoming of others, helping make H Dub the best community there is. Each month we choose a different athlete and post some fun facts about them to help y’all get to know them better!


Shay is a staple part of the morning crew. She is always ready to rock as long as there is some good rap music playing. One of the coolest things about Shay is her ability to make the most out of life. Her and her husband, Aaron, attend the best events around Nashville. Soccer matches, Indy Car races, concerts, you can find them there! Inside the gym she keeps a very positive attitude (as long as no burpees are involved). Congrats Shay, well deserved. You are Athlete of The Month! Please fill out the questions below and get them back to me ASAP: Name: Shay Gauger Hometown: Macomb, Michigan (but moved to TN in 2008 and haven't looked back!) Age: Do I have to? Ha ha, 44 Occupation: Director, Supply Chain Management at Nissan Tell us a little bit about yourself: What were your goals when you started training? Working out for me is a way to deal with the stress of my job and to start the day off right. Of course I want to be stronger and look better but staying healthy is essentially my main goal How long have you been at H Dub and how did you get into it? I joined just over 2 years ago after returning from 2.5 years in Japan. I love CrossFit and needed a local gym in the neighborhood - H Dub came highly recommended by Randy and Mike P so we did a couple trial classes and agreed!

What is your favorite/least favorite thing we do in training? Love lower body and hate upper body for the most part Basically I don't like doing things I'm not good at ha ha.

How has H Dub positively affected you? It's a positive environment and I have met so many amazing people which keeps me going for sure! Also who doesn't love a good question of the day?? What advice do you have for newcomers? Be patient during the learning process! It will make the workouts more enjoyable later if you spend the time to learn the basics up front. What is something no one at the gym knows about you? I had the opportunity to live and work in Japan with Nissan for 2.5 years - it was an amazing experience full of awesome food, people, and travels. I also am part owner of a CrossFit gym in Japan. Who are 3 people you would have a meal or drink with dead or alive? Snoop Dogg, Anthony Bourdain, Kid Rock If you had an intro song when you walk into the gym what would it be. Too tough to decide quickly, I am a rap girl at heart so anything from 90's or 2000's would do I'm sure

Favorite Sport? Probably football but soccer is now a close 2nd since we are NSC season ticket holders! Preds games are always a blast too!!

If you could have one super power what would it be? To be in bikini shape without having to work for it What is your favorite thing to eat? Mexican! Followed closely by sushi
